Finding Ice Skating Again

Dancing with the Stars is one of our countries favorite television shows. Watching Kristi Yamaguchi spin around the dance floor last season brought back memories of watching her glide over the ice during her career as an Olympian. For a generation of reality show watchers, Kristi will be known as a dancer but for those of us who remember her in her youth, she will always be the darling whose graceful ice skating captured the attention of our nation.
Introducing ice skating to our family proved to be a challenge. My husband insisted on finding an outdoor rink which I agreed to just to get him to come along with us. Instead of enjoying the cold, frost of an outdoors, the kids complained. Although the children should have been warm enough in their childrens ski clothing, they kept interrupting the ice skating to head over to the snack bar for hot chocolate. I had specifically brought out the kids snowboard jackets since we were using the outside rink and the temperatures were hovering at freezing.
I enjoyed the excursion and felt my inner Olympian emerge. My husband and I sailed around the rink and took pleasure in the experience of watching our children learn a new sport. Our Winter Kids ended up liking ice skating as a whole, even though most of their fun was had off the ice.
